EPA leader visits West Virginia

The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency visited West Virginia amid the government shutdown to discuss the state’s energy issues.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin met with Governor Patrick Morrisey, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, and local energy and manufacturing leaders Wednesday in Charleston. He toured a power plant and emphasized support for coal while cutting regulatory red tape.

The Department of Energy recently announced up to $100 million to modernize existing plants, with an additional $625 million to support coal and natural gas.

West Virginia is the 49th state Zeldin has visited on a tour aimed at understanding energy challenges beyond Washington.
