Former West Virginia governor and current U.S. Sen. Jim Justice, along with his wife and state Board of Education member Cathy Justice, have filed a motion to settle a federal lawsuit aiming to collect millions of dollars in unpaid income tax assessments, court documents said. A joint motion for consent judgement was filed Monday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia as records show the Justices owe more than $5 million in federal taxes, penalties and interest dating back to 2009. Once considered to be the wealthiest resident of West Virginia, a report from Forbes released earlier this year suggested Jim Justice was projected to have a net worth “less than zero.” The report cited the decline of Justice’s assets – including coal mines and the Greenbrier Resort – along with an estimated $1 billion of collective debt
