Man arrested for high speed chase

A man is in custody after a high-speed chase early Thursday morning in Kanawha County, deputies said. James Howard Stump II, 39, was charged with fleeing with reckless indifference following a pursuit about 4:30 a.m. along Elk River Road, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the chase reached speeds up to 115 mph before spike strips were successfully deployed near the Hardee’s. The sheriff’s office said the vehicle continued driving before Stump exited the vehicle near Mountaineer Heights Road after the vehicle became stuck on a dirt road in Pinch. Stump was taken into custody about 4:50 a.m. Stump is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
