Some workers to lose jobs at Steel of West Virginia

About a hundred jobs will be lost at Steel of West Virginia in Huntington as the company makes long-term changes backed by a thirty-million-dollar investment.
The company says it’s permanently idling its 1950s-era melt shop, which has reached the end of its life cycle. Out of more than 600 employees, about 500 jobs are expected to remain.
Steel of West Virginia says the move is part of a multi-year effort to upgrade its two rolling mills, aiming to boost quality and efficiency using domestic steel billets.
Company leaders say the investment will help secure sustainable operations and protect good manufacturing jobs in the region.
