State offers resources to help with food insecurity during government shutdown

During this week’s update on food assistance amid the ongoing government shutdown and SNAP lapse, Governor Patrick Morrisey said the system they have now with the food banks and pantries and the National Guard is working. However, he said if the need outgrows what the state is providing, he is not afraid to call the legislature back in to appropriate more money. So far, the state has put forward about $8 million to food banks and pantries with plans to release $2 million more this week. In the end, the goal is to have put out $14 million as the state continues to ask people to donate to Mountaineer Food Bank and Facing Hunger Food Bank. WCHS TV said they have collected about $300,000 in donations so far.
