West Virginia has released more than $13 million to food banks. Eyewitness News said $2 million was allocated for the cause Monday amid delays in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Residents facing food scarcity should utilize West Virginia 211 for a database of community resources. Originally, the governor called for help from the private sector, announcing $13 million in state funds would match donations to food banks in a dollar-for-dollar donation drive. That total has since been released by the state without the matching amount from donations. The governor has also called on the West Virginia National Guard to assist with food transportation and distribution.
