Suspected cat hoarder faces animal cruelty charges

A Kanawha County woman is facing animal cruelty charges after authorities found dozens of sick and dying cats inside her East Bank home. Police say 65-year-old Darlene Jarrett was living in what they described as a large cat hoard on First Avenue, with about 30 cats needing treatment. Humane officers have visited multiple times to provide food and medical care. Court records show Jarrett had no income or trash service, leading to unsanitary conditions filled with animal waste. She’s being held at South Central Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond and faces up to six months in jail if convicted.
