15000 students in WVA are considered homeless

15,000 students in West Virginia are experiencing homelessness. Oftentimes, identifying these students to give them the proper resources can be hard.Over 80% of these students have a roof over their heads, but because it may not be considered an adequate fixed nighttime residence, they are considered homeless. Rodd Monts the director of state policy for Schoolhouse Connection, a national nonprofit working to tackle these issues said the more we can do to ensure that youth in the pre k through 12 system are identified and are able to gain access to the supports necessary to achieve academically, the better we’re going to be as a state,”
