A decade-old harm reduction program in Cabell County is undergoing major changes.
The Cabell-Huntington Health Department announced it has ended its syringe services program, which began in 2015 as part of its Overdose and Infection Prevention Program. Health officials say the decision was driven by ongoing funding challenges and increasing restrictions that limited the program’s effectiveness.
The department says it will continue offering disease testing, substance use education, and free naloxone as the focus shifts toward community outreach, overdose prevention, and connecting people with treatment services.
