Lawmakers consider adding 10 commandments to West Virginia classrooms

Two bills in the West Virginia House Education Committee would require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public school classrooms. House Bill 4034, sponsored by Delegate Phil Mallow of Marion County, and House Bill 4103, led by Delegate Elias Coop-Gonzalez of Randolph County, would mandate a durable poster or framed copy be placed in a conspicuous location in all public elementary and secondary classrooms. The bills would allow schools to use public funds or accept private donations to meet the requirement beginning in the 2026–27 school year. Both measures must pass the House and Senate before being sent to the governor for consideration.
