Schools need help funding soecial education

Finding a solution to help county school boards get the funding they need is a big topic this legislative session, with schools speaking out asking for a change to the school aid funding formula. Jackson County is among the many that are struggling to keep up with costs of special education, which is oftentimes the largest expense county school boards have. Jackson County Superintendent William Hosaflook said. “If we could get three personnel for service per 1,000 or population density, that would really help counties out.” Hosaflook added they are working with the state department of education and the legislature to begin a special education fund. He said he has sent two different graphs to lawmakers detailing the deficit. One is about a $144 million deficit,”
