Sewer infrastructure improvements are planned in Huntington

After years of flooding that damaged homes, businesses, and vehicles, Huntington City Council has approved two ordinances aimed at major sewer infrastructure improvements.

The measures authorize bonding to fund upgrades to two critical sanitary sewer pump stations on 13th Street West and Fourth Street, with about 25 million dollars allocated for each project.

The projects will be financed through a combination of bonds and forgivable loans from several state agencies.

City officials say residents will not face a new sewer tax, with repayment covered under an existing rate structure approved in 2022.

Council also approved refinancing existing sewer and stormwater bonds, a move leaders say could lower long-term costs.
