Last night, the Milton City Council voted to pursue annexing several roadways. Those considered include Route 60 in Milton to Virginia Avenue in Culloden, Virginia Avenue to Benedict Road, Benedict Road to the new interstate exchange, and Kanawha Trail to Route 60, including Berkeley Road.
Milton Mayor Shane Evans says the move is not about annexing homes. He says the goal is to protect Cabell County and keep the area from being absorbed by Hurricane or Putnam County.
Some residents have raised concerns on social media, and a petition with more than 400 signatures cites a lack of public notice and transparency.
City leaders say the annexation will allow Milton first opportunity for future business growth and police coverage.
