Injured National Guard member’s mother offers an update on his condition

One of the two West Virginia National Guard members shot in Washington, D.C. last fall is continuing to make progress in his recovery.

Andrew Wolfe’s mother says he’s spent the past six weeks in an in-patient rehab facility and is now preparing to begin an additional 8- to 12-week residential rehab program. Eyewitness News said Wolfe is scheduled to undergo a cranioplasty in early March to reconstruct his skull, which doctors say should allow for greater independence. He’s also dealing with aphasia, a language disorder, but his mother says he’s come a long way after beginning rehab non-verbal.

Wolfe was critically injured in the November 26 attack that killed fellow Guard member Sarah Beckstrom.
