Jackson County man is sentenced for the death of a child

A Jackson County man has been sentenced to prison in the death of a three-month-old child.
Twenty-six-year-old John Tames was sentenced Friday to 40 years for second-degree murder and 15 years to life for child abuse resulting in death. The sentences will run consecutively.

Investigators say Tames was babysitting his then-girlfriend’s infant daughter when she suffered severe injuries, including multiple fractures and brain hemorrhaging. First responders were called for cardiac arrest. The child later died.

Tames pleaded guilty in December. The judge also recommended he not be granted parole.
