Man awaits sentencing for a 2025 St. Albans shooting

A St. Albans man is facing significant prison time after police were met with gunfire while serving warrants in Kanawha County last year.

Prosecutors say 18-year-old Joel Demarlone James McGee pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of wanton endangerment. The charges stem from a July 2025 incident on B Street, where officers arrived at an apartment building with arrest and search warrants.

Investigators say McGee fired multiple rounds from both the front and back of the building as officers prepared to enter. Police did not return fire, and no officers were injured during the incident.

Prosecutors say he now faces between five and 25 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for March 24.
