Mother of Kyneddi Miller sentenced to prison

In West Virginia, a Boone County mother was sentenced Wednesday in the starvation death of her 14-year-old daughter.

Julie Ann Stone Miller of Morrisvale, received 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to child abuse resulting in death. If paroled, she must serve 50 years of supervised release.

Authorities said the teen was denied necessary food and medical care.

The case exposed serious failures in the state’s child protection system. A federal audit later found major noncompliance in abuse investigations. State officials say reforms are now underway.
