Operations at the Willow Island Locks and Dam on the Ohio River have resumed after ice build-up led to the lock being temporarily inoperable. The pause in operations, which began Jan. 28, led to more than a dozen barges being backed up on the river. A news release from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the mechanical issues stemmed from the lock’s bubbler system. Eyewitness News said eight vessels were locked through overnight and as of noon Tuesday, six remained in the queue. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said there are no other delays to lock operations within the district.
