Alex Mayer steps down as DoHS Secretary

Alex Mayer will no longer serve as Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Human Services, the governor said Friday. Mayer’s departure will take effect on Sunday, according to a press release from the office of Gov. Patrick Morrisey. Mayer served a little over a year as DoHS Secretary after he was appointed by Morrisey on Feb. 3, 2025. The release said that Morrisey has appointed DoHS Deputy Secretary Christina Mullins to serve as Acting Secretary. Mullins, a Marshall University graduate, has served in the role of Deputy Secretary since 2022. The reason for Mayer’s leaving was not discussed.
