Bridge work has made a difference but there is still work to do in West Virginia

Structurally deficient bridges remain a major concern in West Virginia, despite the state improving to 30th nationally in overall road and bridge conditions. ABC 8 said the state still has one of the highest percentages of deficient bridges, many of them aging and in need of repair. Recent problems have caused detours in Mason County, including closures along Plain Valley and Route 62 near Point Pleasant, where temporary fixes are now in place. State officials say bridge work is a priority, with more than 30 projects planned in the Kanawha Valley over the next five years, supported in part by $125 million in new funding, though maintaining more than 7,000 bridges remains a challenge.
