Calhoun County murder suspect allegedly confesses to the crime

Police have identified a suspect taken into custody early Friday in connection with a murder investigation in Calhoun County.

Twenty-six-year-old Mickey Case Carter of Grantsville has been charged with first-degree murder, according to West Virginia State Police.

Troopers say they responded just after 2:30 Friday morning to a home along the 25000 block of South Calhoun Highway in Chloe. Inside the kitchen, they discovered 29-year-old Emily Metheney dead with a severe head injury consistent with blunt force trauma.

Witnesses told investigators Carter had been at the home earlier and was later seen nearby covered in blood. According to the criminal complaint, Carter later confessed to causing Metheney’s death and described how it happened.

The investigation is ongoing.
