Dangerous opioid identified in Kentucky

Healthcare officials are warning about a powerful new opioid identified in Kentucky. The drug, known as cychlorphine, is reportedly ten times stronger than fentanyl, according to a social media post from Appalachian Regional Healthcare’s Summers County location. Officials say it has already been linked to overdose deaths in neighboring states and is often mixed into other illicit drugs without users knowing. Because of its potency, overdoses can happen suddenly and be severe. While naloxone may only partially reverse the effects, officials stress it should still be given and 911 should be called immediately. They also encourage everyone to carry naloxone to be prepared.
