On Saturday, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey presented the West Virginia Distinguished Service Medal to the family of Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, honoring her service in the West Virginia National Guard. The medal recognizes National Guard members who provide distinguished service in the line of duty.
Beckstrom and fellow Guard member Andrew Wolfe were shot during a deployment in Washington, D.C., in November. Beckstrom died the next day, while Wolfe is still recovering.
On February 24, President Donald Trump awarded both soldiers the Purple Heart.
