Ten percent income tax cut still under consideration by state lawmakers

With about two weeks left in the session, Governor Patrick Morrisey is continuing to push for a 10% personal income tax cut.

Morrisey promoted the proposal while signing legislation aligning West Virginia’s tax code with recent federal changes. The Senate has approved the cut, but the House has not. Morrisey says lawmakers have 12 days to reach a deal.

House leaders remain cautious. Delegate Vernon Criss says a 10% cut may be unlikely, with lawmakers instead considering a 5% reduction and reviewing a proposed vape tax. The Finance Committee is expected to take up the issue later this week.
