Trial date set again for the man accused of killing State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard

A new trial date has been set for Timothy Kennedy Jr., accused of killing West Virginia State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard. Jury selection begins April 27, with the trial starting May 4, according to court records.

Kennedy was indicted in January 2024 on charges stemming from a June 2023 shooting in Beech Creek, where Maynard was fatally shot while responding to an earlier shooting. The case has faced repeated delays, including a mistrial during a prior jury selection attempt. Prosecutors have issued 33 subpoenas for upcoming trial witnesses, according to ABC 8. If convicted of first-degree murder, he could face life in prison without parole.
