New nursing program is helping reduce the nursing shortage

West Virginia announced a record number of nursing graduates in the state after the state implemented the Nursing Workforce Expansion Program. The program was announced two years ago to assist with the state’s nursing shortage and since 2022, higher education institutions in the state have seen a 15% increase in nursing graduates, according to a news release from the Office of the Governor. In its first year, the state provided $20 million in funding to expand nursing programs throughout the state and in 2023 an additional $26 million was invested in the program.
