A 62-year-old Roane County man has died from COVID-19, bringing the state’s death toll to 79. There are ten new cases of the virus, for a total of over 21-hundred. The positive test rate is below two-percent.

Governor Justice is defending himself for comments he made earlier this week, that former President Barack Obama wasn’t welcomed in West Virginia. Justice says he was referring to Obama’s energy policies, not his race.
Governor Justice has removed a member of the West Virginia State Fire Commission after controversial social media posts. Martin Hess posted a picture of himself on Facebook wearing a derogatory T-shirt. Justice says he won’t tolerate that kind of behavior.
West Virginia casinos will reopen today for the first time in over two-months. Guests will be required to wear masks and capacity will be limited to fifty-percent.
The Cato Park golf course opens today, and will be free for the season. Social distancing rules will be in place, and the clubhouse will remain closed.
Charleston police are looking for thirty-three-year-old Demarcus Brown. He’s accused of stabbing a man in a fight at a home on the West Side. The victim is in critical condition.
Some Marshall University employees will take a pay cut. The school says the cuts are necessary to balance the projected decline in enrollment because of the coronavirus. Employees making one-hundred-thousand-dollars or more a year will have their salary reduced starting in July.
The West Virginia Board of Education has interviewed three finalists for the State Superintendent of Schools position. Current Superintendent Clayton Burch, Assistant Superintendent Kathy D’Antoni and Jackson County Schools Superintendent Blaine Hess are in the running for the job. Some sports will start up again next week as part of the governor’s comeback plan. Athletes in low-contact sports can get back on the field starting June 8, and that includes softball, baseball, soccer and equestrian events.
