Groundbreaking for the New Herbert Hoover High School has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 22nd. It was postponed because of yesterday’s inclement weather.

Sixty-five employees at Panther Creek Mining in Eskdale are being laid off. The cuts will take place in March, and impact more than one-hundred family members in Kanawha County.

The Kanawha County Commission received confirmation from the FAA that hours will not be cut for the Yeager Airport tower. Nighttime flights will not be affected, and the tower is not at risk of any future reductions.

Fire destroyed an abandoned home in Sissonville. Firefighters say the home on Fields Lane had been abandoned for so long they decided to let It burn. No one was hurt.

A Pikeville man died in a crash with a Floyd County deputy’s cruiser. Donald Tackett, Jr. crossed the center line on Bays Branch Road and hit the police car head-on. The deputy was treated at a local hospital and released.

Vandals trashed the Milton Little League baseball field press box for the second time in recent months. Yeager Airport TSA officers confiscated a 22-caliber handgun in a man’s carry-on bag. The man was detained for questioning, and cleared to fly, without his gun. He’s facing weapons charges.
