West Virginia’s unemployment rate fell below nine-percent in the latest WorkForce West Virginia report. The number of unemployed people fell by over eight-thousand last month to over 68-thousand. Year-to-year, unemployment is up with nearly 30-thousand people out of work from August of last year.
Kanawha County is asking for two mobile field hospitals to treat minor injuries and illness outside of the emergency departments at CAMC General and CAMC Memorial. The hospitals need to separate patients with minor injuries from COVID-19 patients inside the hospitals. State officials say a field hospital isn’t necessary, at this point.
Charleston Area Medical Center officials say hospital employees are not contracting COVID-19 from patients, but rather from community spread, and bringing it into four hospitals. CAMC has around eight-thousand employees, and about one-hundred are out of work because of COVID related issues.
The Center for Disease Control is adopting a color-coded system, similar to West Virginia’s. The CDC released the graphic this week, and Governor Justice says it looks incredibly close to the system the state uses.
Three more counties moved into the “red” on the state’s county alert system map. Mingo, Putnam, and Fayette counties join Kanawha County in the “red.” The state Department of Education will release the latest school alert map later today.
Three more people have died from COVID-19 in West Virginia, raising the state’s death toll to almost three-hundred. There are more than two-hundred-fifty new cases of the virus, and over three-thousand active cases. The daily positive test rate is almost five-percent.

Former Parkersburg Catholic High School Principal John Golebiewski is filing a wrongful termination lawsuit against the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. The suit claims he was fired for reporting complaints of inappropriate contact involving a priest and for firing a football coach.
