Vice-President Mike Pence will be at the Greenbrier today for a fundraiser. Governor Justice says he doesn’t know much about it, but he doesn’t think the crowd will violate state guidelines limiting gatherings to twenty-five people. Justice does plan to greet the Vice-President. It costs 25-thousand-dollars-per-person to attend.

Manchin tours post offices

Senator Joe Manchin is urging Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to maintain postal services. Manchin toured postal facilities around the state on Friday, and says DeJoy won’t talk to senators or congressman. Thomas Health coming out of bankruptcy

A judge has approved a plan for Thomas Health to exit Chapter-11 bankruptcy protection. The plan includes terms that provide for discounted refunding of about $145 million in bond debt. Financing is expected to be complete by mid-September. Thomas Health serves 275-thousand patients annually in Kanawha County.

Four more people die from COVID-19 in WV

Four more people have died from COVID-19 in West Virginia, raising the state’s death toll to 157. There are almost two-thousand active cases of the virus, and 135 people are in the hospital. The infection rate is around two-point-four-percent.

Wireless access points will be ready for school restart

The West Virginia Department of Education posted a map that shows the locations where kids can connect to Wi-Fi when school resumes. The six-million-dollar Kids Connect initiative will be completed when classes begin on September 8th. The project will create over one-thousand wireless access points across the state.

Logan County in the “Red.”

Logan County is the only county in the state currently in the red. The county has had over eighty new cases of COVID-19 in the past week. Grant and Mingo counties are in the orange, and will only be allowed to start school with remote learning.

Lighting improvements on I-77

A major lighting project along I-77 is complete, and will provide increased visibility and safety for drivers. The over one-and-a-half-million-dollar project involved installing high mast lighting towers at the Edens Fork and Tuppers Creek exits.

Former Capital High student arreted for sex trafficking

A former Capital High School student is under arrest for his role in prostitution and sex trafficking at least nine young women in Michigan. Twenty-three-year-old Dallas King is accused of befriending college-aged women and grooming them to engage in prostitution. King is also under investigation for engaging in sexual activity with a minor.

Man arrested beating elderly man

A Scioto County man is under arrest for assaulting an elderly man. Thirty-eight-year-old Noah Riggs is accused of beating a 65-year-old man in West Portsmouth. The man was treated for injuries to his head and face, and is expected to be okay.
