WV Supreme Court upholds Lunsford conviction

The West Virginia Supreme Court upheld the conviction of Lena Lunsford, who was found guilty of killing her three-year-old daughter in 2018. She’s serving life in prison with no chance for parole. Lunsford’s attorney cited nine reasons why he believed she was wrongfully convicted. All five Supreme Court justices affirmed the convictions.

Man arrested for hitting officer with ATV

A man is under arrest for hitting an officer with an ATV. A Beckley police officer confronted 30-year-old Darius Cook and another man involved in what appeared to be a drug deal. Cook took off and hit the officer, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The City of Charleston will close Kanawha Boulevard from Court Street to Green brier Street every Sunday in August. Mayor Goodwin says that closing the street has been extremely successful for outdoor dining, and provides people with safe outdoor recreation.

Mercer County woman dies from COVID-19

A 74-year-old woman in Mercer County has died from COVID-19. Her death is linked to the nursing home, raising the state’s death toll is at 112. There are over 150 new cases of the virus, and hospitalizations continue to climb to 98, with forty-people in ICU.
