Kanawha County Reports Four New Deaths

Kanawha health officials said Sunday one more resident died from the coronavirus and three on Monday. The new deaths raise the county’s total due to the virus to 35, according to the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Officials also reported forty-five new cases between Sunday and Monday. Kanawha County has had more than one thousand recoveries.

WV reaches more than 10,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases

West Virginia reached a milestone over the weekend with more than ten-thousand confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than two-hundred deaths. An 89-year-old Kanawha County man died on Sunday. There are almost two-thousand active cases of the virus, and more than 140 people are in the hospital.

“Let Them Play” rally held at the state capitol

A “Let Them Play” rally is set for this afternoon at the state capitol. Some coaches, players, and parents are upset that the color-coded COVID-19 map will keep several high schools from playing opening games this week. Governor Justice is expect to have an update on the COVID-19 COVID-19 rolling seven-day average.

Kanawh County in the “orange”

Kanawha County is in the “orange,” and that will affect extracurricular and athletic activities this week. Sports teams are allowed to practice, but not compete. An update on Saturday will determine if in-person instruction will be allowed on the first day of school on September 8th.

Vintage truck stolen from Rand

Police are looking for the thieves who stole a vintage truck from the Rand area. Police found the truck partially burned and stripped in the Elkview area. Investigators say the vehicle passed through the Martin Hollow Road area, and are asking anyone with security video to contact the sheriff’s office.

Report of missing kayker false alarm

Rescue crews pulled an empty kayak from the Elk River following reports of a missing 12-year-old boy. The search has been called off. Searchers didn’t find anything, and say it was a false alarm. The kayak may have come untied somewhere upstream.

First jury trial since pandemic began starts Monday

The first jury trial since March gets underway today at the Kanawha County Courthouse. Cynthia Gatewood is accused of fatally stabbing another woman last year in Sissonville. The courtroom has been upgraded with new technology and modified for health precautions.
