Graduation week in Kanawha County

It is graduation week in Kanawha County. Commencement ceremonies are taking place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Face mask and socially distancing guidelines are in place, but there are no crowd restrictions. There are about 16-hundred graduates this year.

Juneteenth to become a WV state holiday

Juneteenth will become a state holiday. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States on June 19th. A live-streamed event will feature Montell Jordan and over a dozen musicians, dancers, and poets from across West Virginia.

Capito calls for probe at Beckley VA

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito is calling for an investigation into sexual abuse at the Beckley VA Medical Center. More than fifty veterans have filed lawsuits, claiming they were sexual abused by a VA doctor in 2018 and 2019. Doctor Jonathan Yates pleaded guilty and will spend twenty-five years in prison.

WV populatoin decline is largest in U.S.

West Virginia lost more residents than any other state in the past decade. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that from 2010 to 2020, the population has dropped over three-percent, totaling almost 60-thousand people.

WV Power preps for Atlantic League debut

West Virginia Power is back in action. The Power beat the Pennsylvania Black Sox 17-3 in an exhibition game Sunday. The team makes its official debut in the Atlantic League on Friday against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs at Appalachian Power Park.
