3,000 still without power in WV

More than three-thousand Appalachian Power customers are still without service. Most of the outages are in Wayne County. Line crews will work through the weekend to get power restored. There are about three-hundred locations still in need of repairs.

Power restored to 90% of AEP customers

Appalachian Power says the power is back on for more than ninety-percent of customers affected by the storms two weeks ago. Around six-thousand customers are still without power, and most will have service restored by tonight.

Clinical service suspended at Boone County Health Dept.

The West Virginia Bureau for Public Health is suspending clinical services at the Boone County Health Department after deficiencies were found in the county’s operations. Controversy surfaced in December when more than forty people were mistakenly given an antibody shot, rather than the COVID-19 vaccine.

Former WV Justice Loughry gets new hearing in appeal

A U.S. Court of Appeals will re-hear former state Supreme Court Justice Allen Loughry’s appeal over juror misconduct in his 2018 trial. Remote oral arguments are scheduled to start in May. Loughry was convicted on fraud charges in 2017 and has already served his federal sentence.

A new poll shows that over sixty-percent of West Virginians support raising the minimum wage to fifteen-dollars-per-hour. Senator Shelly Moore-Capito is in favor of a phased in ten-dollar wage increase, and Senator Joe Manchin says he would support an eleven-dollar minimum wage.

Woman facing animal cruelty charges.

A St. Albans woman is facing animal cruelty charges. Two malnourished dogs and a dead cat were found at her home on First Avenue in Charleston. The home was in deplorable condition and the animals didn’t have any food or water.

Vacant house fire in Jerfferson

Fire destroyed a vacant home in the Jefferson area. It’s the second time firefighters have been called to the house recently. No one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
