US 119 Intersection to See Upgrades

Gov. Jim Justice announced Wednesday that he has approved the award of a $5.8 million contract to Mountaineer Contractors Inc. of Kingwood for the Oakwood Road intersection improvement project on U.S. 119. He said the project will create a restricted crossing U-Turn that will increase safety and reduce traffic light waits.

Harrison County schools Superintendent Mark Manchin has been named president of Glenville State College effective July 1. Out-of-State Visitors Can Come Back June 10th

The governor announced Wednesday that out-of-state visitors will be allowed again at private and state park campgrounds and lodges on June 10. He said out-of-state visitors will not be able to stay longer than a week. Out-of-state individuals who own property in West Virginia can come to their own campsites with no restrictions.

Prison Testing Should Be Done in Another Week

Gov. Jim Justice said the goal is to complete COVID-19 testing at all state correctional facilities by June 12th. More than 1,000 inmates and 500 employees at correctional facilities have been tested in the Northern and Eastern Panhandles after a virus outbreak at Huttonsville Correctional Complex in Randolph County.

Southside Bridge to Close for Repair Work

Drivers who normally cross the Southside Bridge in Charleston will have to find another route this weekend. Governor Justice made a pitch to President Trump to have the Republican National Convention in West Virginia this summer. The GOP is looking for alternatives after concerns about COVID-19 in North Carolina, where the convention was orignally planned.

Winfield police officer resigns over Facebook posts

A Winfield police officer has resigned after making inappropriate Facebook posts about protestors across the country. Patrolman Noah Garcelon admitted to making the posts. He’s also a member of the West Virginia National Guard, and faces disciplinary action.
