Fire destroys MacCorkle Avenue home

Firefighters battled a house fire on MacCorkle Avenue. A woman was at home, and made it out safely. The house is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and investigators are labeling it a “suspicious fire.”

Huntington Apartment Fire is Investigated as Suspicious

Firefighters in Huntington battled an apartment building fire Wednesday morning. The fire was in the 800 block of 3rd Street, on Huntington’s south side in an abandoned building. The fire marshal shut down the building about a month ago due to another fire. There were no injuries.

Charleston police launching new “9 p.m. Routine”

Charleston police are launching a campaign to reduce theft and burglaries. It’s called the “9 p.m. routine” that encourages you to remove valuables from your vehicle and lock the doors before bedtime every night. Ninety-percent of vehicle break-ins in Charleston are because people forgot to lock their doors.

Bulger’s family suing prison system

The family of Boston crime Boss, James “Whitey” Bulger, Jr., is filing a lawsuit against eh Federal Bureau of Prisons for failing to protect him. Bulger was beaten to death when he was transferred to a West Virginia prison two years ago.

New test detects flu and COVID-19

There is a new COVID-19 test available in Charleston. It’s called COVflu-19, and detects three viral infections from one swab, including influenza A and B, and COVID-19. The test is available at the Mako Medical lab off MacCorkle Avenue.

Eleven more COVID-19 deaths in WV

The West Virginia Department of health is reporting eleven more COVID-19 deaths, raising the state’s death toll to 469. There are almost 360 new cases of the virus, and the state’s positive test rate is around four-percent.
