WV dropping federal unemployment compensation this Sat.

West Virginia will stop participating in all federally funded unemployment compensation, related to COVID-19, effective this Saturday. That’s a week earlier than the federal government announced it was ending the program. The state’s unemployment has dropped to five-and-a-half percent. Over forty-thousand people are still unemployed.

Kanawha County shooting under investigation

Police are investigating after a man walked into Thomas Memorial hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was on Smith Creek Road when heard a loud noise and realized he’d been shot. He’s expected to be okay. No arrests have been made.

Copperhead sightings reported at Summersville Lake

There have been numerous copperhead sighting at Summersville Lake over the past few weeks. The U.S. Corps of Engineers says the snakes are native to the lake, and often appear on shore and in the water. Bites can be serious, causing pain and swelling, but human fatalities are extremely rare.

185,000 Have Registered for Vaccine Prizes Ahead of Deadline

Lakes Begin Charging Fees to Swim

Popular lakes in the area are now charging, or will soon charge people to swim in them. WVU men’s soccer joining C-USA

WVU men’s soccer program is leaving the Mid-American Conference for Conference USA in the fall 2022 season. That will give the conference ten teams, including the reigning national champion Marshall University.
