West Virginia will stop participating in all federally funded unemployment compensation, related to COVID-19, effective this Saturday. That’s a week earlier than the federal government announced it was ending the program. The state’s unemployment has dropped to five-and-a-half percent. Over forty-thousand people are still unemployed.
Police are investigating after a man walked into Thomas Memorial hospital with a gunshot wound. The victim was on Smith Creek Road when heard a loud noise and realized he’d been shot. He’s expected to be okay. No arrests have been made.
There have been numerous copperhead sighting at Summersville Lake over the past few weeks. The U.S. Corps of Engineers says the snakes are native to the lake, and often appear on shore and in the water. Bites can be serious, causing pain and swelling, but human fatalities are extremely rare.

The body of a West Virginia man was recovered two days after he disappeared along the New River. A whitewater rafting guide on Monday discovered the body of Rudy Cerda of Beckley along a stretch of the river in Cunard, about six miles from where he last was seen by friends, according to The Register-Herald. … Read more
