West Virginia has its first case of measles in 15 years. The case is in the Morgantown area. Even though Morgantown is several miles away, health officials in Cabell County are keeping close tabs on the situation. Dr. Michael Kilkenny of the Cabell-Huntington Health Department told Eyewitness News that there are more measles cases than usual this year. He says while West Virginia has a high rates of measles immunizations, keeping that immunization rate high is the best ammunition against measles. Many of the cases across the US this year have been linked to international travel. Measles infections are usually mild and most people recover, but it can be more serious for children.
