New athletic fields are coming to North Charleston

The Charleston city council this week approved the city’s 11th turf multi-use athletic fields. The $1.2 million project will be built at the North Charleston Community Center and will be used for soccer, football, and baseball. The goal is to draw more visitors through sports tourism. A $250 thousand federal grant will partially fund the project, with the rest coming from the city budget. Crews will begin work on the new field in late spring or early summer.
