In January 1953, the Griffithsville Masonic Lodge No. 71 put a time capsule into a cornerstone of the former Duval High School. Last Saturday, community members gathered at the Duval District Volunteer Fire Department to see what was inside. Eyewitness News said the capsule contained a penny, Griffithsville Lodge bylaws and an issue of the Lincoln Republican Newspaper. Front page news honored Maj. Chuck Yeager followed by a list of rural Lincoln County areas set to receive electricity for the first time. Another newspaper listed the programs of the day on WCHS Radio. WCHS-TV was founded a year and a half later.
