WVU relaxes testing requirement

WVU is relaxing ACT and SAT test score requirements again for incoming freshman. Students will be admitted if they show academic ability on other areas of their application. Test scores may be required for financial aid.

Record number of overdose deaths in 2020

A record number of West Virginians died of a drug overdose in 2020. There was a 45-percent increase in deaths over the past year. Almost 13-hundred people died of an overdose, and most were linked to fentanyl.

Manchin pushing carbon capture

President Biden is proposing to cut greenhouse gases by fifty-percent by 2030. While the proposal was rolling out, Senator Manchin called for the development of carbon capture technology as a way to preserve the use of coal.

Woman convicted in death of 5-year-old grandson

A Harrison County jury deliberated for less than an hour before convicting 49-year-old Michelle Boggs in the death of five-year-old grandson. Her son-in-law was convicted last month in the boy’s death, and her daughter is awaiting trial.

Man charged in fatal West Side shooting

A Clendenin man is under arrest for shooting and killing another man on Charleston’s West Side. Thirty-year-old Beau Hodge got into a fight in an alley off Stuart Street when he fired a shot and took off. He rolled his truck in Elkview and was taken into custody.

REAL ID deadline fast approaching

The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles wants travelers to get ahead of the deadline for REAL ID. Starting October 1st, anyone who flies will need a passport or a REAL ID. To apply you’ll need a passport or birth certificate, a Social Security card, and two proofs of West Virginia residency.
