WV Legislative session begins with new Senate President

The West Virginia Legislature started off with a broken gavel during the opening roll call in the House of Delegates. The Senate unanimously elected Berkeley County Senator Craig Blair as the new Senate President. He replaces Mitch Carmichael who was defeated in the primary election.

WV delegation votes “no” on Trump impeachment

President Trump has been impeached for a second time. West Virginia’s three representatives, Carol Miller, David McKinley and Alex Mooney, all voted against the measure. Ten Republicans joined with Democrats to charge the President with incitement of insurrection.

Kanawha County Alters School Re-entry Plan

The West Virginia Department of Education voted Wednesday to not allow counties to offer countywide remote learning, leading to a change for back-to-school plans in Kanawha County, which had planned to stay in remote learning until Feb. 8, but agreeing to go to in-person classes for pre-K through eighth grade if the state mandated it. … Read more

Drug Sweep in Jackson County Serves 113 Warrants

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office began a huge drug warrant sweep Wednesday morning involving several law enforcement agencies. A Facebook post from the sheriff’s office said officers were acting on 113 warrants for various drug offenses involving methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, prescription narcotics and marijuana. The Jackson County Bureau of Investigations spearheaded the effort.
