Former nursing assistant pleads guilty to murder at Clarksburg VA

A former nursing assistant at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center is pleading guilty to killing seven patients by injecting them with insulin. Forty-six-year-old Reta Mays faces consecutive life terms for seven murder counts. The charges and plea follows a two-year investigation into several suspicious deaths at the VA.

Trial date postponed for man accused of west side murder

The trial date for a man accused of killing a 77-year-old woman on the west side, and hitting a Charleston police officer in the head with an antique iron, is being postponed until a psychiatric report is finalized. Twenty-seven-year-old Joshua Drennen is currently at psychiatric facility in Weston.

City of Charleston creates citizen action group

The City of Charleston is launching a citizen action group called the “Charleston Council for Outreach and Empowerment,” or “C-Core.” It is a diverse group of 25 people that will work to bridge gaps in communication and action throughout the city.

Kanawha County BOE will consider new names for middle school

More than 65-hundred entries were submitted to an online survey seeking suggestions for a new name for Stonewall Jackson Middle School. The top three include West Side Middle School, Katherine Johnson Middle School, and Charleston Middle School. The Kanawha County Board of Education will meet tomorrow to discuss the suggestions.

State Issues Some Guidelines for Fall Sports
