Nearly 25-hundred women will spilt a 23-million dollar settlement in a sexual abuse case against a former Charleston doctor. Kanawha County Circuit Judge Jennifer Bailey approved the settlement in the case against gastroenterologist Steven Matulis. He’s accused of abusing patients while under anesthesia during procedures. The victims will each receive nearly five-thousand dollars.
A two-year-old girl drowned in a pond near her Moundsville home. She was reported missing Wednesday evening, and searchers found her in the pond. Rescue crews tried to resuscitate her, but she died at the hospital. An investigation is ongoing.
The man who was shot by police last week, 33-year-old Denaul Dickerson, was arraigned in court on Friday. He’s charged with attempted malicious assault. A Huntington woman is in custody after she broke into a family’s home while they were asleep. She ransacked the kitchen and fell asleep on the couch. Drugs were found on the kitchen table. She’s facing burglary and drug charges.
A second person is under arrest in the death of Cheyenne Johnson, whose body was found in a Sissonville well. Investigators believe 29-year-old Virginia Smith shot Johnson, and then her boyfriend dumped the body in the well. He’s also facing murder charges.
A man is under arrest after a police pursuit in Dunbar. The suspect hit another car and flipped his car at Dunbar Avenue and Wilson Street. He tried to take off on foot, but was captured. The driver of the other car suffered minor injuries.
